The Botanical Society is involved in a variety of conservation projects which we have undertaken in partnership with other organisations over the years. BotSoc’s conservation programmes are targeted towards land based projects such as stewardships, where land-owners and conservationists can work together to care for the land by using it sustainably; as well as creating enabling environments for people to learn about biodiversity conservation so that they can appreciate nature and the services that Nature provides for their betterment. These include good supplies of fresh clean water, clean air, food, medicines, etc.
The Conservation and Education task team is responsible for identifying priority conservation areas and its organizational structure, resources and people needed to drive such projects. BotSoc has a proud history of responsible conservation and has a long standing association with projects like CREW with SANBI, and the Ekangela Grasslands project and the
Biodiversity and Wine Initiative (BWI) with WWF-SA, which were initiated by the Conservation Unit.
