FYNBOS FORUM INNOVATION SCHOLARSHIP 2010

Deadline for 2010 Scholarships: 31 October 2009

Applications are herewith invited for research at Masters or PhD level at South African Universities and Universities of Technology. Research should focus on the Cape Floristic Region with the aim of contributing to and assisting with the implementation of the C.A.P.E. vision. For more information on C.A.P.E. click here.

What type of projects are being funded?

Research projects should be innovative, achieving the interface between research and conservation application, and should show clearly the potential contribution to the implementation of the C.A.P.E. vision. In addition, projects must be aligned with the Fynbos Forum Research Strategy, which aims to influence landuse in a heterogenous landscape to optimise regional biodiversity conservation. To achieve this, research on a number of levels and topics is required, such as 1) taxonomy and life history research, 2) ground water and fresh water systems, 3) investigating and managing human impacts in the CFR, 4) influencing decision making on biodiversity issues, and 5) development of monitoring and evaluation systems for sustainable use and biodiverstity conservation. Who can apply?

Students of all disciplines (natural sciences, law, business/economy, social sciences) qualified to register for Masters or PhD degrees at South African Universities and Universities of Technology. Projects must be endorsed by the supervisor of the planned project. Candidates are required to register at the host institution at the start of the academic year 2010.
